In 2002 Gary Fell, one of South-East Asia’s pre-eminent architects, was engaged to build the first villa at Samujana. Driven by a passion for modernist architecture, influenced by the legendary Oscar Niemeyer, Gary drew up plans for a house that embraced both the view and the natural topography of the hillside.
With a brief to create a ‘living, breathing place’, he designed it over multiple levels, with thick walls, open living areas, leading to an infinity pool, and gardens. It was a masterpiece in the making, an oasis of seclusion and calm.
Since its inception the Samujana Estate has grown organically from shore to summit. Each villa is bespoke, forming an exquisite collection of unique villas that form an iconic landmark of modern architecture - the first and only of its kind on both Koh Samui, and in the world today.
